Little Things

I was watching Aliens last night, when I noticed that all of the lines the pilot of the dropship was saying sounded very familiar. So today I was browsing around IMDb, and found out why. All of the dropship piolt's regular lines in StarCraft are pulled directly from her. That got me to thinking about other things. The helments the marines wear, Sgt. Apone, and to some extent the look of the rifles in Aliens are all strikingly similar to their counterparts in HALO. In the movie, Sgt. Apone even says, "Get a move on marine. The Corps. ain't payin' us by the hour." This makes me want to look for other movie references in video games. I've only managed to come up with one so far, but cut me some slack, I'm at work: "It came from...behind!"-WarCraft III, an obvious reference to A New Hope

So, what I'm asking for is a little help. Let me know if you know any other references like those listed above (or any obscure references to other video games, books, TV shows, whatever) in video games. Thanks.

Events, and such

For those of you that didn't know, I suggest you prepare yourself.

Jenna Haze turns 23 today.

Okay, sorry about that.

In semi-real news: Queen of Wands will be ending tomorrow. It's been an enjoyable comic to read through, and I'd suggest it to anyone who hasn't read it.

Also, work is boring, but how is that different from any other day?

It's a sad, sad day

For those of you who don't already know, I suggest you prepare yourself.

Hunter S. Thompson is dead.

According to police officials, Thompson died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Sunday in his home near Aspen. Self-inflicted. It's funny how sterile they can make suicide sound in an article.

I've got a lot of work to do today, so I'll leave you to your own thoughts.

To my detractors/Fate exists

I did in fact get some Real Work done today. Not a ton, but more than I have in a very long time. I worked on Colicia, if you can believe it. If you want proof, just let me know and I'll send the latest revision of chapter one, along with some of CHAPTER 2! That's right, I finally stopped spending the entire time rewriting and editing chapter 1 and added a little bit of story. I'm as shocked as you are.

Probably more.

But the proof that I did Real Work today very nearly did not exist. For reasons unknown to me, I didn't save for the four or so hours I spent working on the story. Then I finally decided that it would be a good idea. Not two seconds later, the computer randomly restarts. So yes, fate exists, and apparently it wants me to keep writing.

Again, you want the latest copy, let me know and I'll send it on over.

All that I tell you is a lie...

Finished re-reading Traitor today. Absolutely awesome. If any of you haven't read it, do so. You won't regret it, Star Wars fan or not.

And here I am, thinking. Tomorrow I may dedicate the whole day to getting some Real Work done. One can only hope. Better yet, I'll just use a line from the book to motivate myself:

Choose, and act.

Get ready for a long one...

Again, stop thinking that way, you perverts.

This is too fucked up not to share. Taken from an interview with Terry Goodkind:

Question: What, if anything do you have to say to the people that voice the opinion that you're latest four books haven't been as good as the previous four and call them "too preachy"?

Answer: Don't be fooled. The assertion made by these detractors is a note wrapped around a brick thrown through the window. These people are not fans. There are hundreds if not thousands of fantasy books that fulfill their professed taste in books. Why would they continue to read books they claim are bad? Because they hate that my novels exists. Values arouse hatred in these people. Their goal is not to enjoy life, but to destroy that which is good -much like a school child who does not wish to study for a test and instead beats up a classmate who does well. These people hate what is good because it is good. Their lives are limited to loathing and indifference. It isn't that they want to read a good book, what they want is to make sure that you do not. Ignore them.

What the fuck!? One of you slap me if I ever get that arrogant. How the...I mean what...GAHHHH! Ideology is the enemy of good art. This makes me exceptionally glad that I've never read anything of his, let alone bought any of this shit. Ugh, that makes me feel dirty.
People...Must destroy people...

Sometimes, I just cannot understand things that go on in this world. Today, I'm referring specifically to the "Loonatics," the WBs attempt to remake the Loony Tunes characters. My. Fucking. God.

It bothers me that they are taking some 60 years of heritage and source material and turning it into color coded anime rip-offs. And why do all the characters have to look so pissed off? Did one of the animators slip Ex-Lax in their coffee or what?

Tiny Tunes I can understand. That was true to the style and feel of the Loony Tunes shorts. Duck Dodgers I can understand. That's pulled right out of old Daffy and Porky cartoons. But Wile E. Coyote with a beak? Come on. I'll wait to pass final judgement on them until I see how the writing and content is, but from what I see right now things do not look promising. Is this how my children will think of the Loony Tunes? I hope not. With any luck I'll be able to put all of my favorite classic episodes on DVD and show it to them, and just maybe save them from this horror. Anyway, I should probably work now, as that's what I'm being paid for.

Infinite fucking sigh

Trying to get some writing done this week is like trying to grate concrete with a sponge. Maybe it's just my approach, or maybe I just need to stop thinking about it entirely.

Maybe I should just get smashed this weekend and try to write and see what kind of garbage comes out. The sad thing is, I don't think I could stop being over-critical of myself just because I was drunk. That's a disheartening realization. So again, infinte fucking sigh.

Once more, with apathy

Again, I take a stab at keeping a project on the internet going. I've got to keep myself working on something, and maybe this will help me get other things done as well. Anything to keep me away from an LJ community. (j/k)
